

This was the most important square of the city until Plaza Mayorwas built. This square is faced by many ancient building, like Torre y Casa de los Lujanes on which façade one can admire the coat of arms of the aristocratic family Lujanes.
On the opposite side of the square stands the town council, la Casa de la Villa, a building dating back from the Augsburg age, where are kept some frescoes by Antonio Polomino and a collection of tapestries of the 18th century. .
Next to the Casa de la Villa lies San Miguel basilica, in baroque style, and the Archbishop’s palace.
In the middle of the square a statue has been placed, representing the admiral Alvaro de Bazan who won the famous battle of Lepanto against the Ottomans in 1571.
