Chinchón è is a city lying south-east of greater Madrid in a beautiful position in the middle of the Tajo-Jarama basin, which makes it particularly worthy of visit.
The city council is as beautiful as the surroundings, with a particular square, Plaza Mayor, a mix of classical medieval style and popular architecture. The shape is irregular, simple and with a defined disposition.
The first houses with balconies and porchesdate back to the XV century, but the square was only completed in the XVII century.
The three-storey buildings have irregular galleries and 234 wooden balconies, supported by pillars.

Soon after its construction, the square has been the stage of many activities:, executions, bullfights, theatre performances, royal ceremonies and even film set.
At the bottom of the square raises up the impressive Church of Pity, which has been rebuilt many times in Renaissance style, with baroque, gothic and plateresque elements.
