On the occasion of theExhibition of the Philippine Islands, to show people the diversity of the flora and fauna of this country, a special glasshouse was built to host the plants inside an appropriate environment.
So in 1887 the Park of Buen Retiro and the Crystal Palace were built.
The crystal walls of the glasshouse are supported by iron columns in ionic style.
On the outside dominates the façade in ionic style, overlooking the lake, which is populated by many kinds of water plants, like the cypresses, immersed for half of their trunk into the water.
Numerous temporary exhibitionsof contemporary art have been hosted for years inside the palace, as a demonstration of the winning combination of nature and art.
