This place is part of Madrid municipality, and is set amidst the wonderful valley of river Lozoya,on the slopes of the Somosierra pass.
Due to its geographic position on the south foot of the Central System, and to its peculiar disposition in a wide basin created by the river, this village has been a strategic place during the Middle Age.

For about two centuries it was an Arab fortress built to protect the town from the assaults of the Christians coming from Segovia.
In 1368,the municipality passed to Pedro Gonzalez de Mendozafor the whole half of the XIX century.
The almost perfectly preserved town wall and castle situated near the river date back to this period. The town was finally won during Alfonse VI’ s campaign.
