How to move around Madrid

 

Underground

The best way to move around the city is by underground. The network is very functional, and includes 12 lines, operating from 6 am to 2 am, and reaching almost every corner of the city.

A single ticket costs 1 Euro, while for 1,5 euro you can purchase a combined ticket which entitles to use both the underground and buses in the suburban areas. Multi-ticket carnets are also available to move on the surface. You can download a map of Madrid underground from the website www.metromadrid.es

 


Bus

There are many bus lines covering the entire surface of Madrid with frequent rides. The average waiting time is 10 minutes, with services operating from 6 amto 23 pm.

From the bus terminal in Plaza de Cibelesdepart the Bùbos,the night buses covering the most crowded places with rides every 30 minutes until 3 am, and every hour until 6 am.

Remember that Madrid is a chaotic city, so buses often get stuck in jams.

 


Taxi

In Madridthere are over 15.000 taxi, painted in white with a diagonal red stripe, available at any of the reserved stops, at airports and stations, but you can also stop one in the streets, as everybody does. Beside the base fare, there is a tariff of 0,85 euro/km at day, and 1 euro for the night tariff.

 


 

Car

Traffic in Madridis often jammed, and the use of car may be not the best way to move around, not to mention the problem of car parkings. If you get to Madrid by car make sure to book a hotel with parking facility..
