Castillo de Manzanares el Real
The Castillo de Manzanares l,lies in the south part of the Sierra de Guadarrama.
The castle enjoys a splendid position between the passage of Pedriza and the artificial lake ofSantillana, towering over the valley Medio del Manzanares.
The castle was ordered by the dukes of the Infantadouring the reign of Catholic Kings,and was meant as their personal residence. The architecture shows at the same time the robustness typical of a medieval fortress,, and the elegance of an aristocratic renaissance palace..
It has a square plan with towers on each corner, three cylindrical cubes and a great central tower, the Torre di Homenaje.
The inside is absolutely worthy of visit, with beautiful tapestries, armors and furnishings of various ages. The castle is strictly bound to the recent history of the Madrid Region, as in these rooms was officially issued the tatute of the Autonomous Community of Madrid,,lately approved by the Congress and Senate in 1983.
