Castillo de Batres

The Fort of Castillo di Batres, was the residence of the famous poet Garcilasco de la Vega, who was born in Toledo around 1501.

This is one of the most valuable castles, and the most original of the Madrid area , situated in Batres, a village lying southwest of the region, on the border with Toledo countyand close to the banks of Guadarrama, a river which represents for the village an important source of wealth.

The most ancient part of the castle is the tower del Homenaje which stands out from the rest of the construction with its harmonious proportion. .

The complex has a square plan, with fine and elegant architecture, though maintaining a military touch. The main gate, in gothic Isabelline style is highlighted by the shield of Lasos e Guzmanes, which is decorated with the utmost minutiousness..
The courtyardis made up of a double gallery, with columns similar to those of the Alcarria region, and a well in the middle revealing the ruins of the pre-existing structure.
