The Palace of Buen Retiro was built in the XVII century as an amusement and relax place for king Philip IV.
The Casona del Buen Retiro was the Dance Room of the palace, and it still preserves elements of the ancient building, despite all the restoration works it was subject to. The ceiling represents one of the finest examples of these ancient elements, and was painted in the XVII century by Lucas Jordan.
The building was given to the Prado Museum and hosts a collection of paintings of the XIX century..
