Casa de la Villa

 

In the middle of a the small and beautiful square Plaza de la Villa, lies the seat of the Madrid town council: La Casa de la Villa.

Its construction began in 1644 and took 52 years, according to a project of the architect Juan Gòmez de Mora..

The building was used for a certain time as a prison. ,It has a façade made up of two big symmetric brick and granite blocks, two towers and balconies, while from the main door stands out Madrid shield..

Access to the building is possible from thetwo twin doors. Inside there are some valuable elements and rooms, like theStaircase of honour, the Gallery, the Portrait’s room, Goya Hall,, lthe Chaphel, the Session Hall, il Crystal courtyard and the Room of carriages..
