Madrid National library

 

The library was founded by Philip Vin 1712, under the name of Royal Library,.although there are no documents proving its creation until 1716.
The National Library was created with two main purposes: to make knowledge accessible to all the people and to host particular libraries..

The construction of the building, which was designated a historic-artistic monument in 1983began in 1866. .
The façade is in Doric style on the ground floor, and inIonic styleon the upper floor. Here the pediment is visible, which is decorated with statues representing the triumph of the Art, Sciences and Letters..

Currently the National Library represents one of the richest libraries, with 6 million volumes, a hundred thousand periodic publishings, thirty thousand manuscripts and 8 million documents.
The collection is divided into modern books (from 1831) and ancient books (until 1831), manuscripts and documents, newspapers and magazines, engravings, drawings and photos, maps and plants, scores and recordings.
